Stun guns seized in Tallaght and man arrested

A consignment of stun guns was seized in Tallaght yesterday and a 24-year-old arrested by gardai.

The stun guns, which originated from the Netherlands, were seized by Revenue officers at a house in Tallaght on Wednesday morning. 

A statement released by Gardai said: “This morning 13th June, at a residential address in Alderwood, Tallaght, Dublin 24, a package was seized by Customs, which contained a consignment of Stun Guns which had been imported from the Netherlands.”

Stun guns are prohibited weapons under the Firearms Act 1925, as amended by the Criminal Justice Act 2006, except under licence.

In a statement released this afternoon, Revenue said: “This seizure was part of ongoing intelligence led joint operations by Revenue’s Customs Service, the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau, and the Special Crime Task Force, targeting the illegal importation of firearms.”

A 24-year-old man was arrested by Gardai and brought to Tallaght Garda Station where he was detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

Investigations are ongoing.
