Take Off Your Cornflakes – Civic Theatre plays host to fair city actors

Alzheimer’s is a cruel and heartbreaking disease, that splits loved ones apart and destroys family bonds.
An upcoming play at the Civic theatre addresses this very serious topic and attempts to see the humourous side to it.

Rose Henderson and Pat Nolan run two shows of their self-written piece ‘Take Off Your Cornflakes’ for Wednesday, February 25 and Thursday, February 26.
The show’s characters, Trish and Tom – played by Fair City actors Rose and Pat – have just celebrated their Silver Wedding anniversary.
The next morning Trish realises, her beloved husband has fallen sick with Alzheimer’s and cannot remember his wife anymore.
As a consequence, she feels she has to deal with it with music, humour and love.
The touching play got its inspiration from Rose’s dad Jack, who had Alzheimer’s.
“He taught us about staying in the present, because that’s where he lived,” commented Rose.

“We had to learn to never ask a question that didn’t have the answer in the room. His intelligence made life a crossword puzzle to be solved.
“I believe humour is the only way to survive if this topic visits you.”
In the case of Rose’s father, Jack forgot that he had cancer.
Being a SHOW IN A BAG production, ‘Take off your Cornflakes’ is supported by Fishamble, the New Play Company, Irish Theatre Institute, and Dublin Fringe Festival.
The 75-minute-long play will be shown on Wednesday, February 25 and Thursday, February 26 in The Civic theatre.
Tickets are available on Civic Theatre for the price of €19 (€17 with confession).
As a special offer, the price is reduced to €15 for the first 50 tickets.
