STEP back in time for a day of music, dancing, old photos and videos will grace Ballyfermot Library on Saturday, August 19 (10.30am to 4.30pm).
In line with National Heritage Week (August 19-27), Ballyfermot Heritage Group have organised a musical and historical extravaganza with Ballyfermot Library.
Ballyfermot Heritage Group member Ken Larkin (above) who lives in Tallaght said they have been lucky to get a great response from musicians to perform at the event entitled ‘Take a Step Back in Time.’
Some of the artists performing include Phil Dalton with his band Reiska, Ronnie Kennedy (ex Daniel O’Donnell Band) and Noel McGann (ex Cadets), Anto White, the Academy School of Irish Dancing and former TD Derek Keating.
“I’d like to thank all the artists for giving up their time to perform in our heritage open day and also to Una Gomez and all the staff at Ballyfermot Library,” said Ken.
“Without their help this could not happen. All that is left now is for residents to come along and take a step back in time and you may meet old friends. The Ballyfermot group is looking forward to meeting people on the day and sharing some great memories of growing up in Ballyfermot and the surrounding areas.”
Meanwhile, Ballyfermot Library are also hosting two more heritage-themed events later that week.
On Thursday, August 24 at 6.30pm, Dublin City Council historian in residence Cathy Scuffil will host a talk on Birth of a Nation, Ireland and Ballyfermot, 1919-1923.
On Tuesday, August 29 at 6.30pm, The Fast and the Fancy features the unique world of pigeon fanciers with John Carroll, based on a photography project undertaken by Mr Carroll.
