Taking the stress out of choosing a CAO course

TWO Greenhills locals are part of the team behind a new website which has helped thousands of students to take the stress out of choosing a third-level CAO course.

UniBrowse, founded by Greenhills natives Niall Cronin and Alan O’Beirne, alongside Walter Holohan and Kenneth Casey, offers an accessible way for students to see the differences between their preferred courses.

Users can select two courses on the website and instantly compare them – this then presents a wealth of essential information about the two courses, including the CAO points for each course and the main topics covered.

Niall Cronin, who also plays for St Jude’s GAA Club, told The Echo about the difference the website would have made to him if it was available when he was making his CAO choices:

“I think it would’ve allowed me to be a bit more confident in my choices.

“The information is there from all of the other sources, but it’s not easy to decipher or see the differences between courses.”

The website brings together all of the information about the various CAO courses, and presents them alongside each other.

It was developed in response to feedback which students had given during focus groups, which ensures that the website caters to its target audience.

The website has already assisted over 14,000 students with making their college choices, with plans to more than double that figure in the upcoming academic year.

The website, launched in December, will soon cater to the parents of students too with Mr Cronin telling The Echo that, “when everyone’s going through the CAO process, parents are worried too.”

The new section will contain a forum for parents to discuss their concerns and queries with each other, as Mr Cronin says he wants to make sure that “we’re not forgetting the parents”.
