OVER €900 was raised for Bumbleance – The Children’s National Ambulance Service, by third Year Tallaght Community School students as part of their action project in CSPE class.

The students chose to raise funds for the charity as their classmate Zach Heffernan’s (15) aunty and uncle, Mary and Tony Heffernan, set up it up after their two young children passed away from Batten’s Disease.

The class of 29 students held a bake sale in the school before Christmas and also collected donations using sponsorship cards to raise funds for Bumbleance.

The students baked muffins, brownies and rice krispie cakes for their bake sale and raised over €300, and then raised over €500 through sponsorship cards, reaching a total of €940 which was presented to Bumbleance last week.

CSPE teacher Damien Keane told The Echo: “We sold out of 95 per cent of the cakes that had been baked for the bake sale, and that was when it really hit the students.

“There was a real sense of being an active citizen and giving back.

Mr Keane added: “The class couldn’t get over the amount of money they raised. When the person came in from Bumbleance and showed them the facilities in the ambulance and what the money would be used for, I think that really brought it home for the students.”

Bumbleance was set up in 2013, and provides ambulance transport tailored for children, with their fleet of ambulances being kitted out with things like DVD players, CD players and Wi-Fi, while also containing the latest medical equipment and inter-hospital communication systems.
