Tallaght CS are spot on in South Dublin decider

TALLAGHT Community School had to go right to the wire to clinch the South Dublin Under 15A title, winning out 4-1 on penalties against Moyle Park College in Greenogue on Thursday, writes Ciaran Kirk.

The two sides were deadlocked at 1-1 at the close of regulation time and even extra time failed to produce a winner despite TCS having gone a man down beforehand.

Moyle Park netted from a corner that was knocked on to the back post where Nelly Akinola was on hand to finish, but Tallaght were level not long after, Naj Razi finding the back of the net.

The Clondalkin side would have felt confident in their penalty taking abilities, having overcome Old Bawn on spot kicks in the semi-final, but, between the woodwork and Tallaght goalkeeper Luke Burke, they managed to convert only one of their attempts from the spot.

Meanwhile Aji Habeeb, captain Keane Douglas and Razi all despatched their attempts to the target to see the Tallaght side raise the prize.

Delighted with the performance of his team, TCS manager Damian Keane told The Echo “They’re an incredible group, whether they’re down a man or anything, it doesn’t seem to matter. Nothing fazes them.”

Moyle Park coach Gerry Lee remained upbeat despite the defeat, saying, “The quarter final and semi finals were our best performances. Overall, it was a great campaign.”
