Tallaght gardai to pilot new uniforms

A NEW Garda uniform is being piloted in Tallaght this summer, with local officers expected to be sporting the new outfits from July.

The new gear will be worn by officers stationed at three locations across the country, Tallaght, Henry Street in Limerick and Bunclody, Co Wexford – with the trial uniforms including cargo trousers and a T-shirt made of hybrid breathable materials.

The uniforms pictured are the piloted kit for armed support teams and the active duty summer uniform.

The new look was unveiled at the GRA (Garda Representative Association) conference in Wexford, where Superintendent Liam White said officers want a uniform that is “fit for purpose” – and that these uniforms is what they have “come up with for a pilot scheme”.

“It’s front line personnel on the regular units that will be participating in the pilot,” Super White said.

“It’s the feedback that we get from them that will go into, hopefully, determining what is going to be delivered in the next uniform.”

The uniforms are being trialled on a three month basis.
