The hospital confirmed that all appointments cancelled will be rescheduled as "a priority" and that patients will be advised of their new appointment as soon as possible.

The hospital added: "Our Adult and Paediatric Emergency Department remain open and we wish to reassure patients that those who attend the EDs will be seen."

Hospital management has asked people to “think about all of their care and treatment options so we can keep our ED services for the patients who need them most”.

The three children’s hospitals, including the National Children’s Hospital at Tallaght, have also cancelled planned admissions and outpatient appoints tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday due to the red weather alert.

Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin, Temple Street Children’s University Hospital and Tallaght Hospital will reschedule the cancelled appointments as a priority.

Currently, the three children’s hospitals are operating and their emergency departments are open.

A further update will be issued tomorrow (Thursday).
