
Tallaght MA secures strong national team representation
Tallaght Martial Arts Fight team saw a number of their competitors deliver at the second round of Kickboxing Ireland’s Senior National Champ-ionship in Tallaght Leisure Centre on Sunday.
The competition was hotly contested with fighters having to win both rounds to secure their place on the Irish team that will represent Ireland in the WAKO World Champion-ship in Turkey in November.
Tallaght Martial Arts members competed strongly at the second round of the nationals
Nicole Bannon won by maximum score in the -60kg Senior Female Points Fighting section with Keri Browne topping the -65kg Senior Female Points Fighting field.
In the Masters section +94kg Pat Hardiman emerged runner-up, while there were third place finishes for Fergus Daly in the -84kg and Dave Harris in the -79kg Points Fighting sections.
Gar Ryan fighting in the -74kg Points section, won his final by maximum score to regain his national title with Stephen Jones securing the -94kg Points title.
Also fighting for National honours were the younger cadets (10-12 years) in light contact and kick light where Brayden Davis topped the podium in the Younger Cadet Light Contact Under 32kg division
His TMA fight team club mate Nathan Clarke finished third in the -32kg Light Contact, and edged out Davis in the final of the Kick Light division.
Cillian McArdle fighting in the Younger Cadet -28kg Light Contact, was pipped in a tough battle in the final before continuing on to win the Kick Light -28kg Younger Cadets.
Leo Golding was third in the Younger Cadets -42kg Light Contact section while Leá Farrell regained her national title in the -50kg Senior Female Points Fighting division.
This great return in the Nationals came hot on the heels of the club’s fine showing in the recent Munster Open in Mayfield Sports Complex in Cork.
Indeed there were wins carded there by Dylan McClelland, Nathan Clarke, Anna White, Aaron Keogh, Dillon King, Cian Jones, Zara Jones, Leá Farrell and Isabel Goulding.
Next up for the TMA fight team is the Hungarian Open in Budapest this weekend with more than 30 students fighting in the WAKO World Cup.
