Tallaght man already in jail for driving charge causing death pleads guilty to further charges

A driver, who is currently serving a sentence for dangerous driving causing death, has pleaded guilty to a number of different charges. He was remanded in custody for sentencing by Tallaght Court.

Judge Patricia McNamara heard that Kevin McCarthy is currently serving a four-year sentence with two-and-a-half years suspended from Dublin Circuit Court on April 5 last for dangerous driving causing death.

McCarthy, aged 23, with an address at Rossfield Park, Tallaght, pleaded guilty to stealing a lawnmower worth €250 at a location in Tallaght on July 21, 2016. He also pleaded guilty to having no insurance, no driving licence and no NCT at Rossfield Park, Tallaght, on April 26, 2015.

He also pleaded guilty to having no insurance and no driving licence at Brookfield Road in Tallaght on April 11, 2016.

McCarthy’s solicitor, Michael Hennessy, told Judge McNamara that his client is currently serving a four-year sentence with two-and-a-half years suspended for dangerous driving causing death.

Judge McNamara said she would require a full assessment and probation report prior to considering sentencing.

Sergeant Eithne Madden said McCarthy had 74 previous convictions.

Judge McNamara remanded McCarthy in custody for a week to Cloverhill and ordered he be remanded to Tallaght Court on a date in June for a probation report and for sentencing.
