Tallaght’s Glen McAuley signs first pro contract with Liverpool FC
It was a 17th birthday to remember for Tallaght lad Glen McAuley as he penned his first professional contract with Liverpool FC yesterday.
The former Crumlin United and St Joseph’s Boys striker, who has already netted 14 times for the club’s U18 team this season, signed a youth contract with the Merseyside outfit last year.

Having shown a real eye for goal already, Liverpool have moved swiftly to tie down McAuley to a pro deal, and they will be hoping he continues to develop.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com earlier this month, the club’s U18 team manager Neil Critchley described McAuley as an “old fashioned centre-forward who always puts himself in goalscoring positions”.
Meanwhile, McAuley said he is enjoying his time at Liverpool and is relishing the opportunity to train under the watchful eye of club legend Stephen Gerrard on a daily basis.
Congratulations son,
Mam and I are so proud of what you achieved but today it starts again. pic.twitter.com/4woZsUcthE— jay mcauley (@mcauleyglen) February 24, 2017
“Just seeing him and everything, and then talking to him – he’s just a normal man, funny as well! It’s great having him around the place,” McAuley said.
He continued: “It makes you want to play better, doesn’t it? You try to not make mistakes.
“I’ve just been having normal conversations with him. And then he’s told me about using my arm to hold people off in training, because I need to work on my hold-up play and he’s helping me with that.”
