Tallaght South tops the list of vacant council houses with 16 of 32 available to be re-let
Tallaght South has the largest number of vacant council houses and the largest amount of such houses ready to be re-let in South Dublin.
This is what the council informed councillors at last week’s full council meeting.
Tallaght South has 32 vacant houses, with 16 of those ready to be re-let.
Palmerstown-Fonthill with 19 houses has the next largest number of vacant council houses – nine are ready to be re-let.
Clondalkin has 11 vacant houses, five of which are ready to be re-let while Tallaght Central has eight vacant houses, with six ready to be re-let. Lucan has six vacant houses, five of which are ready to be re-let.
Firhouse-Bohernabreena has three vacant houses, with two ready to be re-let and Rathfarnham-Templeogue has just one vacant, which is not ready to be re-let.
The council engages five re-let repair contractors who, together with the council’s direct labour crews, work to bring vacant properties up to standard for allocation in the shortest possible timeframe, the council informed councillors.
To date 56 properties have been allocated in 2024 with an average turn-around time of 20.48 weeks.
The council’s housing maintenance team continues to work closely with the housing allocations and estate management teams to increase efficiencies with the objective of reducing turnaround times to a maximum of 16-20 weeks, the council continued.
