Kingsbury Furniture welcome customers back to new store
ADVERTORIAL
THE owners of a Tallaght furniture shop that has been trading for 33 years, and which reopened last week following a flood last September, are “looking on the brighter side of things”.
Kingsbury Furniture, which is located in Tallaght Retail Centre, had to temporarily close its doors last September for several months after a flood severely damaged the shop and its stock.
Paul Nugent, the co-owner of Kingsbury alongside his brother David, told The Echo the flood was “caused by a leak in an apartment above our shop resulting in extensive damage in store on September 17, 2023.
“Water was being pumped by a four-bar pump system connected to the mains for six or seven hours through the night and we were greeted one Monday morning with the shop destroyed.
“We had to clean up and dump damaged furniture and sell off the rest at half price or less to empty the shop to enable builders to start works.
“Builders had to strip the shop of the old flooring, old plaster boards and carpets and essentially do a complete refit of the store.”
The refit included new lighting, flooring, carpets and ceilings, while a new CCTV camera and fire alarms were also installed, and a lot of plastering and painting was required before the shop reopened.
“We were closed for a much longer period than we anticipated initially,” added Paul.
“Three insurance companies were involved: apartment insurance, block insurance and our own insurance and the delays resulted in our builders not being able to start prior to Christmas.
“It was mid-January before any works began and we really only finished up by the end of April.
“We missed one of our busiest times of the trading year but, looking on the brighter side of things, we have a brand-new store.”
The store reopened last Friday, May 17, and the owners and their dedicated team of staff are looking forward to welcoming customers back into Kingsbury Furniture.
“We look forward to welcoming our loyal customers back in store to view our new collections and showroom,” said Paul. “Hopefully the next 33 years will surpass the last.”
