Tallaght Town Centre Project receives a €17 million boost

SOUTH Dublin County Council’s funding for the Tallaght Town Centre Project has received a boost as Minister for Housing, Darragh O’Brien TD, approved a €17m increase in the funding allocation.

The Tallaght Town Centre Project comprises a number of works in central Tallaght, including an innovation centre, a transport hub, the Airton Road extension and “ambitious plans” for Tallaght Stadium.

The funding is being awarded as part of the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF).

The initial provisional URDF allocation for Tallaght Town Centre Project was €14.8m, based on an estimated project budget of €19.8m in 2019.

The revised provisional allocation which Minister O’Brien has approved is €31,894,325 an increase of €17,044,325 based on more accurate and up-to-date project costings of €45,878,372.

The local authority will make a 25 per cent contribution to the balance of the costs, which will bring the total spend on the project to €45m.

Work on the remainder of the Tallaght Town Centre Project is due to commence in the third quarter of 2021.
