Tallaght United march on in cup

TALLAGHT United are into round three of the FAI Junior Cup after a 3-1 home win over Wayside Celtic last Saturday, reports John Mooney.

Gary Orr-Kearns gave them a seventh minute lead, but that was cancelled out two minutes into the second half by Matt Farrell.

It was touch and go from there until United netted number two through Jamie Murray with nine minutes remaining, while Orr-Kearns got his second of the game in stoppage time.

BLACKFORGE FC are also into the third round of the competition after they saw off a stern challenge from Jobstown Celtic in Walkinstown Park.

Jack Pearse gave the Celts the lead on 37 minutes, but that lead lasted only three minutes before Sean Kennedy levelled the tie.

Then a flurry of goals in the final 12 minutes saw the Forge through, as Michael Plunkett netted twice, Thomas Kelly replied for Jobstown and Mason Domican made sure for the Forge in added time.

ANOTHER big win for the UCFL’s Ronanstown FC against LSL opposition when they sent Castleknock Celtic home with a 4-0 defeat.

This follows a 7-0 win over Rush Athletic in the previous round, and after Jordan Payne gave them a 35th minute lead there was only going to be one outcome.

Karl McCormack, Brian Coombes and Blake Devitt added to the opener to see Ronanstown safely through.

Jobstown Celtic’s Jack Pierce and Blackforge FC’s Keith Herrity

PALMERSTOWN FC sent Liffey Wanderers back to Pearse Street empty handed, after they scored four without reply to advance to round three.

Conor Ryan and Luca Fahy bagged two each on the day to see off Liffey’s challenge, with Fahy smashing one screamer home from almost the half way line.

TERENURE Rangers said goodbye to this seasons competition when they bailed out on a 2-0 home scoreline to Harding FC.

They started well enough and had Harding on the backfoot for a time in the opening half, but failed to capitalise on that and eventually paid the price as two goals in the space of two minutes put paid to their ambitions of going far.

QUARRYVALE FC failed to reach the heights of their LFA Junior Cup journey, they play Rathoath Harps in the quarter final, when they welcomed Killester Donnycarney to the SDFL and went down on a 3-2 scoreline.

Dylan Byrne and Paul McMahon got their goals but, on the day, the visitors just shaded it with the odd goal in five to send the Vale out.

BOOTH Road Celtic welcomed Swords Celtic to Corkagh park for their FAI Junior Cup encounter and ran out 3-0 winners.

A quick fire start from the home side saw them go 1-0 up after just two minutes, when Callum Lapsley-Browne gave them the lead.

Then at the end of the half they doubled that advantage through Dylan Robinson to give them a 2-0 cushion going into the second half, while on 65 minutes Aaron Byrne wrapped up the tie with their third.
