Teen (16) pleads guilty to assaulting his mother at home

A TEENAGER (16) who headbutted his mother has been placed on a nine-month Probation Bond by Tallaght District Court.

The sixteen-year-old, who has an address in Rathfarnham, had pleaded guilty to assaulting his mother at his home address on May 5, 2017.

He was before Judge Paula Murphy for a probation report and was accompanied by his mother. The teenager is currently in detention in Oberstown and there were three members of staff from the detention centre in court.

The teenager’s counsel, Stephen Montgomery Bl, said it was a good probation report. He said the teenager was doing well in Oberstown and was involved in a number of different activities.

Mr Montgomery said his client is a very talented soccer player. He said that last year his client went for a trial to England with a professional soccer club.

The court had heard that on May 5, 2017, the teenager’s mother reported an incident to Rathfarnham Garda Station.

At 12 noon that day, the teenager was at home and was being verbally abusive to his mother. The mother put her hand on her son and asked him to stop.

The teenager then attempted to head butt his mother a number of times and grazed her head. He made contact with his mother once.

The mother had moved her head so not to receive the full impact of the head butt, the court had heard. Judge Murphy placed the teenager on a nine-month Probation Bond.
