Teen found drunk in a field by garda after abusing security guard
A TEENAGER who was abusive to a security guard and then found lying drunk in a field by a garda had his case adjourned for a probation report by Tallaght District Court.
The 17-year-old, who has an address in Tallaght, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with Garda Kevin Keane’s directions at a supermarket in Tallaght on December 2, 2017.
He also pleaded guilty to public drunkenness at a park in Tallaght on February 10, 2018.
The teenager was represented by his solicitor, Michael Hennessy.
Garda Keane told Judge McNamara that on December 2 last, he responded to a call to go to the supermarket. He said he walked through the supermarket to its back entrance where he saw the teenager and other youths “engaged in a fracas with a security guard”.
He said he observed the teenager being verbally abusive towards the security guard and he asked him to desist. Garda Keane said he then directed the teenager to desist under Section 8 of the Public Order Act but he continued to be abusive and was arrested.
Garda Ronan Harris said that on February 10 last, he had been on patrol in Tallaght at 8.40pm when he observed a person lying in the grass of a park. He said he walked over and saw that the person was a young male. Garda Harris said the defendant was highly intoxicated and was unable to stand up. He said the teenager fell over when he tried to stand up.
Garda Keane said the teenager had one previous conviction. At Tallaght District Court on January 19 last, he had received a six-month probation bond for driving a stolen car.
Mr Hennessy asked Judge McNamara to adjourn the case for a probation report.
Judge McNamara adjourned the case for a month for a probation report.
