Templeogue prevail in Under 14 decider

THE CLASH of Under 14 sides Templeogue and Ongar Chasers proved another of the nailbiters that featured in the Dublin Cup Finals bill recently.

Played on Sunday, March 11, in the Oblate Hall, the match saw Templeogue prevail 45-43 after producing a late revival to force overtime in which period they clinched it.

Templeogue's Under 14s won out by two points

A close encounter was always on the cards after Templeogue had narrowly won their only previous battle in the league this season.

And they edged into a 10-14 lead by the close of the first quarter with Kyle Finn netting two free throws.

Jacob Fazande was in fine form again, hitting 13 points with Jack Finn and Captain Dáire Murray combining for a further 15.

In the second quarter, Templeogue forced turnovers and punished with Ryan Hyland planting a double while strong defence from the likes of Hugh O’Brien and Oisin Kenny helped limit their opponents to seven.

Togii Chilkhaajav and Jack Wright both hit four points while Darragh Butler also got on the scoresheet.

12-point advantage

Templeogue headed into the second half with a 12-point advantage, but Ongar were not about to lie down and made Templeogue work hard for their six points in Quarter Three.

And midway through the final period Ongar squared the match at 37 points apiece before pushing on to go three up with under two minutes remaining.

A time out from Templeogue was called and upon the restart they forced a foul, taking one of their two free throws before netting the leveller with 30 seconds left.

Ongar hit the first basket in overtime, but, having won the Dublin Cup at Under 12 and 13 degree, this Templeogue side was never giving up and hit the next two baskets before converting a free throw to clinch the win.
