A “GOOD CITIZEN” reported a woman for illegal dumping, Tallaght Court heard this week. Stephen Brennan’s actions led to Teresa McDonagh copping €700 in fines and costs.
McDonagh, of Dale Tree Place, Ballycullen, was accused of public littering at Old Court Lane, Old Court Road, Dublin 24, on April 19, 2015. McDonagh did not appear in court.
Litter Warden with South Dublin County Council, John Hynes told the court that on April 19 last, he took a report of littering from Mr Brennan.
He said he later issued McDonagh with a fixed charge penalty notice and sent her a reminder letter when it was unpaid.
Mr Brennan told the court he had been driving with his family on the above date when he saw a woman taking white bags of rubbish out of an Opel Zafira and throwing them into a ditch.
He said: “I pulled up and asked her what she was doing. She said ‘she wasn’t doing nothing’. I proceeded to take photographs of her and her car.” Judge Reilly thanked Mr Brennan for being “a good citizen”.
She added: “It’s only a pity that more people are not more civic-minded. With rights come responsibilities”.
She fined McDonagh €500 and €200 costs.
