Man accused of repeated rape of another male a decade ago

A MAN accused of the repeated rape of another male over a three-year period a decade ago was granted bail by Tallaght Court.
The man (32) appeared in custody before Judge Bridget Reilly. Judge Reilly reminded the members of the press present in the court that reporting restrictions applied in the case.
The man, who has an address on the northside of the city, is charged with 17 counts of orally raping a named male at an address in Tallaght on dates between July 1, 2003 and June 30, 2006.
He is also charged with 16 counts of anally raping the same male at the above address in Tallaght on dates between July 1, 2003 and June 30, 2006.
Sergeant Seamus Palmer told the court that he arrested the man that morning at his home address and he conveyed him to Tallaght Garda Station where he was later charged.
He said the man replied “it’s not true” to the first charge and made no reply to the following 31 charges.
In response to the man’s counsel, Gabby Deane Bl, the Sergeant said he had no objection to bail but asked for a signing-on condition and asked that the man surrender his passport and make no effort to leave the jurisdiction.
Judge Reilly granted him legal aid.
Sgt Palmer said the DPP had directed trial on indictment and added that the DPP had directed that the accused could go forward on a signed plea.
Judge Reilly released the man on bail and remanded him for six weeks for service of his book of evidence.
As part of his bail, he must sign on twice a week at his local garda station, have no contact with the injured party, surrender his passport and make no effort to leave the jurisdiction.
He must also inform Sgt Palmer if he changes his address.
