The elite of world karate set for action at Arena
TWO World Karate champions will be among 12 of the sport’s elite athletes competing in an international karate gala taking place in the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght this coming Saturday.
The WMAI/WUKF International Karate Gala 2021 will involve competitors and officials from across Ireland, the UK, Poland, Italy and France and topping the bill will be the clash of France’s Christophe Pinna, a six-time World and European champion, against the current WUKF Professional World champion Daniele Spremberg of Italy.
Also among the contests featured will be the very first ladies clash between Dubliner Jasmine Byrne and Poland’s Aleksandra Zgorecka.
Previously hosted in Poland, this tournament is coming to Dublin for the first time and its arrival has been facilitated by South Dublin County Council’s Tourism Event and Festival Grant.
The karate matches will be live-streamed worldwide from the venue on the night highlighting South Dublin County and Dublin’s Outdoors to a worldwide audience.
There will be live commentary as well as entertainment for the audience which has been restricted to 800 in line with public health guidelines.
“This WMAI/WUKF Professional Karate event, which will include a World title fight, will be one of a kind in Dublin and we are hoping for full Irish support in the Arena on the night” said Sean O’Brien, President of Wado Martial Arts Ireland.
“WMAI were approved an offer of assistance from South Dublin County Council’s County Promotion Unit under their Tourism Event and Festival Grant for this year’s competition.
“If it wasn’t for this grant we would not be able to put into place, the infrastructure needed to make this show a success. I would like to thank SDCC and Dublin’s Outdoors for their belief and support in this event” he added.
Tickets for the event are available on Ticket Tailor now.
