The snow’s back! Advice if travelling by car, Dublin Bus or Luas
By Mary Dennehy
The snow is back and while it’s not causing the major disruptions of Storm Emma, there are a number of warnings and transport curtailments in place today.
Met Éireann has extended its Orange Weather Warning for the Greater Dublin Area until 6pm this evening, with motorists and those using public transport advised to exercise caution and plan their routes.
Occassional heavy snow showers will continue throughout the day with further accumulations and drifting.
According to South Dublin County Council gritting took place yesterday and again this morning from 5am. However, the local authority is urging caution if travelling today as Met Eireann’s Status Orange weather warning remains in place.
Dublin Bus
Dublin Bus is operating as normal however, due to poor road conditions curtailments are in place and include local bus services such as the 49,65, 65B, 75 and 77A.

Luas
There was no tram service this morning between Saggart and Belgard due to a technical fault with signals. However, Luas has just confirmed that this has been fixed and that trams are servicing all stops on the Red Line.

Motorists
Gardai have advised motorists this morning of hazardous conditions on roads and footpaths in Dublin, with strong winds and snow greatly reducing visibility.
According to gardai, they have already received a number of reports of collisions on both minor and major roads - with the M50 down to one lane.
They have advised drivers to clear windows and mirrors before setting out, reduce speed and increase braking distances and use dipped headlights at all times to ensure you are seen by other motorists.
Watch out for vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists and allow extra spaces while cyclists and motorcyclists are advised to check local road conditions and consider alternative transport where necessary.
Pedestrians should walk on a footpath, not on the street. Walk on the right hand side of the road, facing traffic if there are no footpaths.
AA Roadwatch has reports on local roads throughout the day.
