The Square hits feel-good and footfall heights during Fun Day for community

THE Square Shopping Centre recorded its highest ever footfall on a Saturday, during a Community Services Fun Day last July.

The success of the event, which celebrated and highlighted emergency services in displays at The Square and Tallaght Garda Station, was discussed at a council meeting last week.

Independent councillor Mick Duff, when speaking at the meeting, described it as an “incredible day” and praised South Dublin County Council for their involvement in organising the event.

“I think it was one of those ‘feel-good factors’,” he said. “I know the Square reported back, I think it was the largest footfall it had for any Saturday on its record.”

The event was held on Saturday, July 22, and featured Dublin Fire Brigade, the National Ambulance Service, the Defence Forces, Tallaght Hospital, Blood Bikes East, and transport operators.

The well-attended Community Services Fun Day also included a DJ, a bouncy castle, face painting, and a games zone.

Cllr Duff asked council management if there are plans for the event to be held again, as he credited it as being “a real highlight of the calendar”.

The chief executive of South Dublin County Council, Colm Ward, said: “I think The Square would be happy to have a Community Services Day every week if they could!

“But it’s an annual event, I think. We’ll look to repeat it, or replicate it in other areas as well, because it was undoubtedly very positive.”
