‘They are always flying up and down the roads’

Six years ago, teenager Warren Kenny (16) lost his life on Christmas morning in Cherry Orchard after a crash involving two scrambler motorcycles.

Last September, an infant was taken to hospital after a collision between a scrambler and quad bike on Croftwood Crescent.

The toddler was believed to have been sitting on a stationary quad bike with a young woman, when the collision with another scrambler took place.

Christmas time increases frustration of the issue for many residents, with kids racing new bikes around their respective communities.

Ballyfermot gardai have made numerous attempts to confiscate bikes in local parks and on public road thoroughfares.

Last November, eight people were arrested following a garda investigation into the dangerous and reckless use of scramblers in public parks and roads in the Ballyfermot area.

Searches under warrant at addresses resulted in the seizure of a scrambler, two quad bikes, two e-bikes and heroin with a street value of €3,000.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardai and emergency services attended the scene of a road traffic collision on the Ballyfermot Road on January 2.

“Two vehicles, one containing a male and female and another containing a male, were involved in this collision. Two passengers were conveyed to St James’s Hospital for treatment of their injuries.”

Gardai said investigations are currently ongoing.
