Three months in jail for man who sexually assaulted woman by trying to kiss her and grab her breasts
By Brendan Grehan
A SAGGART man who sexually assaulted a woman by grabbing her breast has been jailed for three months by Blanchardstown District Court.
Eddie McGrane (54) was before Judge David McHugh for the judge to hear a victim-impact statement and for sentencing.
He had originally pleaded not guilty but changed his plea on the hearing date.
McGrane, who has an address at Slade Castle Walk, Saggart, had pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting the named woman at the above address on October 30, 2015.
Reading the victim-impact statement, Judge McHugh asked to hear the facts again.
The court presenter said that the victim had been sleeping in McGrane’s bed. McGrane entered the bedroom and asked the victim if he could lie beside her.
The sergeant said McGrane then got into the bed and grabbed the woman’s breasts and tried to kiss her.
The court had heard that the victim was 35.
McGrane’s counsel, George Burns Bl, said his client had been fully clothed at the time and had been under the influence of alcohol.
He added: “That was the height of it.”
He said McGrane had no recollection of the incident. Mr Burns said the victim had been very fair in her statement.
Mr Burns said McGrane was attempting to get treatment for his problem with alcohol and had difficulties getting a treatment centre.
He said McGrane’s daughter was in court with her father and she had written a letter to the court.
He said McGrane had also written a letter of apology to the victim.
Judge McHugh said he had considered the case and was sentencing McGrane to three months in jail.
