Ticknock Mountain to host popular cross country biking blitz
A cross-country mountain biking event in the enchanting Ticknock Mountain is taking place tomorrow, Sunday, March 25.
The event is just one of a series of events to mark the 2018 biking season which takes place around the country every second weekend throughout February and March.
The event is in Ticknock Mountain
The Coillte Biking Blitz is a mountain-bike series that has so far seen over 1,500 amateur and recreation mountain bikers take part. Coillte, the state’s commercial forestry business, are the sponsors.
Ticknock Mountain, one of Coillte’s five flagship trails, offers up to 10km of forest walks with spectacular views of Dublin City and Dublin Bay.
The Biking Blitz is aimed at novices, but all other ability levels are encouraged to attend.
Event organiser Niall Davis of Biking.ie explained: “The Coillte Biking Blitz series is a brilliant introduction for children or adults who want to try out mountain biking for the first time.
Beginner friendly
“As a beginner friendly mountain bike series, with free events for kids on balance bikes as young as 2 years old, our aim is to ensure everyone has a fun experience.
“Winning or losing isn’t on the agenda and everyone gets a medal. Events like these can really open the door to endless adventures.”
The event will have food vendors on site, live music, interviews and exhibitors.
Speaking about this year’s Biking Blitz, Daithi de Forge, Coillte’s Head of Recreation said: “Mountain biking is fast becoming a very popular sport in Ireland and, as the leading provider of outdoor recreation in Ireland, Coillte is delighted to be the lead sponsor of this year’s Biking Blitz.
“In recent years, Coillte has and continues to play a major role in providing the kind of world-class mountain bike facilities that are encouraging more and more people to participate in this wonderful outdoor activity.”
Admission is free for spectators and competitors are being encouraged to apply early at www.bikingblitz.ie
