ROUND Tower have all but secured their place in the knockout stages of the Under-16 Football B Championship after comfortably beating St Marks 6-12 to 1-6 in Round Two of Group One at Clondalkin Community Centre last Saturday.

Both sides came into the game with a win under their belts, with Marks beating Naomh Mearnog by six and Towers putting a whopping 6-20 past a Castleknock side that sits bottom of the group.

And the fire power of the Clondalkin side was to prove too much also for St Marks, as half forward Cian Tunney opened the scoring with his first of five points when he broke down the wing and slotted over the bar.

Half forward Ross Byrne was the only scorer for the travelling side as he put in an impressive shift.

Round Tower had their own full forward in flying form too as Jason Murphy picked up half of Towers goals and racked up a tally of 3-1 from play, helping send Towers into half-time with a seven-point lead.

But the score of the afternoon came just after half-time when a Stephen Barry goalkick was met in the air by half-forward Tunny, who dropped the shoulder and went past two players before putting the ball over from 35-yards.

Despite the goalscoring threat that Towers possessed, Marks’ showed a lot of heart with corner-back Aaron Jacob and full-forward Luke Doyle putting in a solid all-round performance.

Half-forward and captain Senan Walsh along with full-forward Ben English and Ciaran Courtney accounted for the remain-ing goals for Towers, while John O’Malley and Conor Marrow struck over the rest of their points.
