Tragic death of homeless man discovered in park

A KIMMAGE park was cordoned off by gardai following the discovery of the body of a man in his 50’s.

The discovery was made early on Sunday  morning (August 1) at Lorcan O’Toole Park.

Gardai cordoned off an entrance to the park on the Stanaway Road side of the amenity.

Police tape covered the entrance and the wider playground area, and gardai were still on the scene at 7.30pm on Sunday.

A Garda spokesman said: “Gardai are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a body of a man in his 50s, in the Lorcan O’Toole Park in Kimmage, at approximately 7:45am on August 2.

“The local coroner has been notified and the body has been removed to the Dublin City Mortuary where a post-mortem will take place at a later date, the results of which will determine the course of the investigation.”

Flowers were left at the gates of the park on Sunday evening, as locals paid respect to the man, labelling him a “true gent”.

Chief Executive of the Feed Our Homeless charity Tony Walsh said: “This is very sad news to hear of another homeless man who tragically lost his life within a park in Kimmage.

“My condolences go out to the family and friends of the homeless man at this very sad time. May he rest in peace.”
