Trilogy of plays come to Civic for Voyage exhibition
THE Civic Theatre is preparing to bring art fans on a week long adventure this month as part of their Voyage exhibition, which will include an art exhibition and a trilogy of plays.
The exhibition will kick off with the gala opening of the ARTZheimers 2017 exhibition on March 21, which will feature work from artists all over the country.
ARTZheimers is a social enterprise based in Rua Red in Tallaght, which uses the medium of art and human stories to connect with people and as a way to talk about Alzheimer’s.
20 of the pieces which will be on display during the exhibition will be from new artists, who were shortlisted from 92 entries.
Niamh Honer from the Civic Theatre said the art work will offer “a reflection on people’s experience and perception of the disease through art.”
Voyage will also feature three plays, each dealing with different periods of life ranging from existentialism to ageing.
Joanne Ryan’s ‘Eggistentialism’ play looks at the challenges facing would-be mothers who are preparing to give birth, Bryan Burroughs’ ‘Beowulf the Blockbuster’ deals with a father coaching his son on how to deal with life’s challenges, and Mikel Murfi’s ‘The Man in the Woman’s Shoes’ is a comedic look at the freedom that can come with ageing.
The plays will be performed throughout the week of the exhibition with a special ‘Binge Watch Saturday’, where you can watch all three shows in one day, taking place in the theatre on March 25.
Niamh added that “the main thing is that you go on a voyage with us and see the different life experiences” which are presented in the numerous works and performances on display during the exhibition.
Voyage will be showing at the Civic Theatre from March 21, beginning with the opening of the ARTZheimers exhibition, while each of the plays will have two performances during the week before the Voyage showcase concludes on March 26.
Tickets for the plays are €18 (€16 concession) each, or you can watch all three plays on ‘Binge Watch Saturday’ for €30.
There are also a number of workshops running during the showcase geared towards people who are interested in acting and performance, more details are available online at www.civictheatre.ie/voyage-festival
