‘True gentleman’ mourned by both young and old

A PACKED church congregation turned out to pay respects to one of ‘Clondalkin’s greats’, Alan Denton.
The grandfather was well known for his famous greeting ‘tikitiboo’ and praised by residents as a ‘true gentleman’ and ‘great guy’.
Mr Denton, a resident of James Connolly Park, died on July 26, surrounded by family in Our Lady’s Hospice, Harold’s Cross.
Mourners at the Church of the Immaculate Conception funeral service on Monday, July 30, were of different generations, according to Independent councillor Francis Timmons.
Cllr Timmons said: “Alan Denton was one of Clondalkin’s greatest legends. I was at his funeral and the village church was packed with a mix of young and old, showing how much he was loved by all generations.
“Alan was a guy who always had time for people, always smiling and a joke to tell. He would help anyone if he could.
“When you would ask him how he was he would always reply tikitiboo.”
Mr Denton is survived by his wife Maureen, three daughters, one son and 10 grandchildren.
A message on RIP.ie said Mr Denton was “dearly beloved husband of Maureen, and much loved dad of Bernadette, Maureen, Alan and Priscilla. Alan will be deeply missed and forever loved by his wife, daughters, son, brothers, sisters, sons-in-law Kevin, Eric and Alan, his adored grandchildren, extended family and friends.”
