Gardai arrested two males following the attempted hijackings
The Echo understands the pair attempted to drag a female and her passenger out of a vehicle in the first attempt, but were unsuccessful.
After this failed, they then attempted to drag a male out of a second vehicle in the immediate vicinity.
During the course of their second attempt, the driver of the vehicle received injuries to his head.
On Monday, a garda spokesperson told The Echo: “Gardai drove upon the scene and arrested one of the males, the second escaped at the time however was identified and arrested at a later time.
“Both males were arrested, detained, charged and kept in custody.”
The Echo understands there was a significant garda response to the attempted hijackings.
At the time of the response, gardai also arrested a shoplifter in the Claddagh Green area, a completely separate incident and believed to be someone “in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
