Two arrested after botched robbery at local betting shop

A would-be thief who used a taxi as a getaway car was arrested along with another man yesterday after a botched raid at a betting shop in Walkinstown.

The incident happened on Walkinstown Road at 7pm when one man entered the premises and threatened staff before demanding cash.

The man left the scene empty-handed and fled in a waiting taxi.

Gardai stopped the taxi a short time later on the Naas Road and two men, one of which was waiting in the vehicle outside the shop, were arrested.

In a statement to Echio.ie this morning, a spokesperson said: “Gardai are investigating an attempted robbery which occurred at a premises on the Walkinstown Rd , D12 on the 4th September 2017 at approximately 7pm.”

“A man entered the shop, threatened staff and demanded cash from counter staff.

“The man fled empty handed into a waiting taxi which was stopped shortly afterwards on the Naas Rd.

“Two men were arrested at the scene (second man waiting in the taxi) and taken to Crumlin Garda station.

“No injuries were reported and investigations still ongoing.”
