Two people arrested after Gardai catch them removing clamp from car
Two people were arrested earlier today after Gardai observed them via CCTV attempting to remove a clamp from their vehicle.
Officers were on their way to conduct a checkpoint targeted at those using their mobile phone while driving when they were alerted to the duo.
It is a criminal offence to remove a clamp from a vehicle, and both persons were arrested and taken to Pearse Street Garda station. The driver also had no insurance and had an invalid licence.
After dealing with the incident Gardai then proceeded on to begin their mobile phone operation when they came across a man breaking into the luggage compartment of a bus.
The man was arrested and brought to Pearse Street Garda Station and is currently before the courts.
Eventually, Gardai carried out the mobile phone operation and all drivers were compliant except for one who was on their mobile whilst driving.
The driver was stopped and was issued a Fixed Charge Notice (driver also breathalysed and passed).
Gardai said: “Distracted driving can lead to a serious or even fatal road traffic collision.
“We urge all drivers to make that personal choice to put away the mobile phone and concentrate fully on their driving, for their and all other road user’s safety.”
