Two wins from two for Peamount women
PEAMOUNT United secured a comfortable 3-0 win at home against Waterford last weekend to continue their unbeaten run in the Women’s League of Ireland Premier Division.
The score was opened in the first two minutes of the game with Eleanor Ryan-Doyle blasting home from close range after finding herself with the ball directly in front of the Waterford goal. The goal marked the striker’s first of what will presumably be many for the season.
Ryan-Doyle was involved again around the 15 minute mark, this time providing a chance that nearly led to another Peamount goal.
A corner delivered from the boot of Ryan-Doyle found the head of Abbey Tuthill and with the ball seemingly destined for the bottom left hand corner, the Waterford keeper made an excellent save to keep the lead to just 1-0.
Ryan-Doyle would not be denied an assist six minutes later after an outstanding pass cut through the Waterford defence and put Sorcha Melia through on goal with the teenager making no mistake in converting the strike to secure her third goal in three games.
Peamount would not be out of the woods yet however and almost conceded after a momentary lapse in concentration saw Waterford penetrate their defence in the 28th minute. Thankfully Niamh Coombes was on hand to pull off a big save.
Peamount would see themselves 3-0 up before half time, Ryan-Doyle providing yet another assist, very similar to her earlier effort. The ball whipped in on her weak foot found its way to Aisling Spillane who made no mistake and drilled it into the bottom left corner just after the half hour mark.
Peamount would go close again in the second half through further efforts from Spillane and Ryan-Doyle while Waterford would have a shot cleared off the line and another hit the post, though the second half would remain scoreless with the match ending 3-0.
The result leaves Peamount in second place in the league on seven points alongside Shelbourne and Athlone Town. Galway United currently occupy the top spot having won their opening three games.
Peamount will have a tough task on their hand in their next game as they travel to go up against current league champions Athlone Town on April 19th.
