Uninsured driver (30) ‘digging a bigger hole for himself’

AN UNINSURED driver was “digging a hole for himself every time he opens is mouth”, a court heard.

Hamsa Raza (30), with an address of Brandon Road, Drimnagh, appeared before Tallaght District Court, pleading guilty to the charge.

The court heard that gardai stopped Raza in a vehicle on May 16, 2024, at M50 Junction 11, Northbound, Tallaght.

There was no valid insurance for the vehicle.

Defence solicitor Ethan Foley said his client knows he shouldn’t have been driving.

His client did subsequently produce insurance for the vehicle, is fully insured on a separate vehicle and needs his driver’s licence to take care of his family.

Judge Derek Cooney did not understand the defendant’s explanation.

“Once caught by gardai he goes off and gets it insured,” said the Judge.

Mr Raza said he was not trying to evade anything but wanted to be able to use the vehicle lawfully.

Raza told Judge Cooney that the car was left at a workplace location for six months, that he was preparing to scrap it and moved the car because he was asked to do so.

Judge Cooney said Raza was “digging a hole bigger for himself every time he opens his mouth” and fined him €200 with six months to pay.
