Uninsured driver was driving child to hospital

AN UNINSURED driver who was driving to hospital when his child became ill received a five-month suspended sentence in Blanchardstown District Court.
Judge David McHugh also banned Jamie Geoghegan from driving for six years.

Geoghegan, aged 24, with an address at Angus Hall, Belgard Square, Tallaght, pleaded guilty to having no insurance and no driving licence at the Naas Road, Clondalkin, on January 19, 2019.
A Garda told Judge McHugh that he stopped Geoghegan on the Naas Road on the above date.
He said he spoke to Geoghegan who said he had no driving licence or insurance.
The garda said Geoghegan has 72 previous convictions.
In July 2017, Geoghegan had received nine convictions for having no insurance and nine for having no driving licence.
Geoghegan’s solicitor, Patrick Shanley, said his client is in a relationship and his partner is expecting a child in the coming weeks.
He said Geoghegan has one child and they had lost a child in the past. Mr Shanley said that at the time of the incident their child had a fever and they were bringing the child to hospital.
Judge McHugh sentenced Geoghegan to five months jail, suspended for two years and imposed a driving ban of six years.
