Vacant salon unit taken over by Housing Body

A VACANT hairdressing salon unit in Ballyfermot has been taken over by an Approved Housing Body (AHB).
The AHB is set to move into the former Sheerlock Combs Hair Salon on Claddagh Green.

AHB’s provide affordable rented housing for people and support particular groups, such as the elderly or homeless.
News of the move was announced to members of the public at the recent Policing Meeting in the Civic Centre last month.
The former hair salon served the community for up to 30 years, but had closed in the last six months.
Claddagh residents on Tuesday evening The Echo spoke to were not aware of the plans, but many felt there was a more pressing need for a café or takeaway.
“There is nothing like that here, you have to go down to Ballyfermot Road,” said a local woman.
“It would be nice for the old folks living in Claddagh Court to have a little place to pop over to for a coffee. This area has been let down by investment in the past.”
Claddagh Green is a mini-hub for the neighbourhood, and a primary retail outlet for many people living in St Matthews parish and Cherry Orchard.
Among the units are Ryan’s Centra, the newly opened Superior Salon, Boylans Pharmacy, and Johnston Solicitors.

However, it appears plans for housing at the unit have been shelved for now.A DCC spokesperson said: “There is no AHB involved with this premises.
The lease of the premises has been surrendered to Dublin City Council by the previous occupant. No decision has been made on its future use or its possible future redevelopment. We will update the local councillors in due course on plans.”
