By Maurice Garvey
STAFF and volunteers at Make a Wish Ireland contributed to a video thanking local volunteer Owen Ferry for his work over the last 10 years.
Mr Ferry (71) a Ballyfermot Crescent resident helped to raise close to €50k in the space of a decade for the charity – which delivers magical wishes to children living with serious illnesses.

“It is not just recognition for my Dad but for the people of Ballyfermot,” said Owen’s son Neil.
“He is a proud Donegal man from Gweedore but is living in Dublin for over 50 years and Ballyfermot for 40 plus years,” said Neil.
“Make a Wish made a video congratulating him.
He has been volunteering and fundraising in Ballyfermot for the Make a Wish Foundation for 10 years now and has decided to retire from fundraising.
“He had lots of help from people in the Ballyfermot community with organising these events such as a beard-a-thon, wax nights, race nights, dyed hair, and many more events.
All the bars in Ballyfermot helped out, Downeys, Fowlers etc.
He has raised almost an amazing €50,000 and it just goes to show the spirit and generosity of the people of Ballyfermot.”
