Water restrictions will continue beyond next week

The Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government, Eoghan Murphy TD, has confirmed to Fianna Fáil Dublin Spokesperson, John Lahart TD, that the current water restrictions imposed in the Greater Dublin Area will continue beyond the end of this week.

Replying to a question by Deputy Lahart in the Dáil, the Minister said: “Irish Water is seeing improvements in many of these areas, and with the exception of Fethard and the Greater Dublin Area supplies, expects that most issues will be resolved by the end of the week.”

Speaking after the debate, Deputy Lahart said: “This has been a nightmare for many residents. Most were aware of restrictions being put in place but were completely caught off-guard to find themselves completely cut off and without any running water.

“People from every part of my constituency including Bohernabreena, Glenasmole and other regions in the Dublin Mountains, have been in touch asking me how long they are going to be without water.

“There are families with young children who need feeding, older peole living alone and many other vunerable people in our society who have no idea as to how long they will be without water.

“I appreciate the severity of the weather that we experienced last week but to expect people to carry on indefinitely without any water, or any indication as to when they will have water, is not acceptable,” concluded Lahart.
