West Tallaght community urged to come out and support BYCC staff
The community of West Tallaght have been urged to come out and show their support for the staff of the Brookfield Youth and Community Centre this afternoon after it was unexpectedly closed by the management.
Those working at the centre were informed of the immediate closure at 4pm on Friday by the management company who had been running the centre.
The six staff were issued with an immediate notice of redundancy and offered four weeks pay.
The staff have refused to leave the building since, and have been sleeping there overnight since Friday.
They met with union officials on Saturday morning, and all six have said they will remain there indefinitely.
The building is owned by South Dublin County Council, but Brookfield Youth and Community Centre Limited had been managing the day-to-day running of the centre.
The street meeting this afternoon will take place at 4pm outside BYCC, and the entire community are encouraged to come out and show support for the vital amenity, which has been an integral part of the community for many years.
