
Westside host successful Emerald Cup
WESTSIDE Boxing Club brought another successful Emerald Box Cup to Tallaght. Held in the Tallaght Leisure Centre it took place over three days from August 23rd to the 25th reports Ken Doyle.
Westside Boxing Club which is based in Brookview have been run by the Stacey family now for over thirty years and was very proud to host the second annual version of the competition.
The club has membership of over 100 boxers and caters for all age groups. The Emerald Box Cup had seen boxers from across England, Scotland, Wales, Holland, Spain, France and several other countries.
With over 400 entries the competition three boxing rings were constantly in use over the three days.
Tallaght was well represented at Emerald Box Cup, with many of our promising young boxers taking titles and medals galore.
Westside BC was of course involved, along with St Mary’s BC and Jobstown Boxing club.

Every aspect of the tournament was run perfectly, having been overseen by Westside headcoach Frank Stacey.
Frank told The Echo, “This competition wouldn’t be possible without the help of our members volunteering their time and effort put this massive tournament together.
“Jablink were also a huge help in the organisation of the event.”

“It was great to see the local clubs do so well and all the Tallaght clubs who sent boxers, St Mary’s, Jobstown BC and ourselves, winning titles and showing that boxing within our community is alive and going very well.”
