Wild Youth to represent Ireland at Eurovision

WILD Youth will represent Ireland at the 67th Eurovision, which is set to take place in Liverpool this May.

Band members Callum McAdam and Ed Porter, both from Tallaght, Conor Donohoe and David Whelan were among six Eurovision hopefuls on Friday night’s live Late Late Show special.

The lads and their song We Are One was chosen via a studio jury, national jury and a public vote.

The winning song, We Are One, was penned by lead singer Conor in Sweden with Grammy-nominated songwriter, Jorgen Elofsson.

Speaking after Friday night’s win, Conor said: “Thank-you to everyone who voted for us, we are overwhelmed, we hope everyone can get behind the song and that we can do everyone in Ireland proud.

“We want to thank all of our families, they have supported us from day one.”

Wild Youth now have their sights set on the Liverpool Arena, and will perform for Ireland in the first half of the Eurovision semi-final on Tuesday, May 9.

The band’s drummer Callum McAdam, who is a past student of St Mark’s Community School, spoke with The Echo in January.

During his interview, the Jobstown musician said: “It’s exciting. It’s such a huge honour to even be accepted out of the hundreds and thousands of applications.

“We’re just doing our best and we want to represent ourselves in the most honest way we can.

“We want to enjoy this process as much as possible.”
