Woman allegedly found with €5k worth of counterfeit items

A WOMAN allegedly had €5,000 worth of fake Michael Kors handbags and shoes, Timberland boots and Adidas and Nike runners in her Clondalkin home, Blanchardstown District Court has heard.
Ying Ying Chen, aged 40, with an address at Oldchurch Grove, Clondalkin, is charged with fraudulent application or use of trade mark in relation to Michael Kors handbags, shoes and jewellery, Timberland boots and Nike and Adidas runners and additional items at Oldchurch Grove on December 12, 2016, contrary to Section 92 (1) and (4) of the Trade Marks Act, 1996.
Garda Nodhlaig Meany told Judge David McHugh that on December 12, 2016, she stopped Ying Ying Cheng on Oldchurch Grove in a car believing her to be in possession of counterfeit items.
Garda Meany said she allegedly found counterfeit items in the car and asked Ying Ying Chen if she could search her house. Garda Meany said Ying Ying Chen was fully cooperative.
Garda Meany said it will be alleged that she found a large number of counterfeit items in the house.
Judge McHugh asked what was the alleged value of the items.
Garda Meany replied: “It is quite difficult to put an exact figure on it. The DPP take the view that the copies are very crude and are worth in or around €5,000.”
Judge McHugh accepted jurisdiction.
Making an order for disclosure, Judge McHugh remanded Ying Ying Chen on continuing bail for five weeks for a plea or a date for hearing.
