By Aideen O'Flaherty
WORK has started on the development of a new €11 million Sports Science, Health and Recreation Building on the Greenhills side of the TUDublin-Tallaght Campus.
As previously reported in The Echo, plans for the building were given the greenlight in February 2019.
The works started in TU Dublin
The plans also include a grass playing pitch, covering 140 x 90m, with floodlights, a scoreboard, spectator seating, and ball catch nets behind the goalposts.
Some of the other associated works that go along with the development include landscaped pedestrian areas, footpaths and 56 covered bicycle-parking spaces.
A spokesperson for TU Dublin-Tallaght Campus said: “This new 3,282 m2 state of the art building will provide teaching, research, laboratory and recreation facilities for students, faculty and the wider community, and is due to be completed in December 2021.”
The building will contain facilities such as an indoor sports hall, teaching accommodation, and associated facilities, arranged over two storeys with a total floor space of 3,175 sq. m.

The site of the development is on a large green space to the right of the entrance to the college, just off the Greenhills Road, and runs adjacent to the derelict former Gallaher’s site.
