Work to start on elderly complex

LONG overdue refurbishment of an elderly residents housing complex in Inchicore is due to begin in October, reports Maurice Garvey.
The tender process for Jamestown Court has finished and workers are due on site next month, according to local councilor Greg Kelly.
In December, The Echo reported residents were living in “unacceptable conditions” at the council-owned bedsits.
The site suffered delays in refurbishing due to technical issue of the title details of the land where the units are located – a legal wrangle which has since been resolved.
Between 20- 30 people, the majority of whom are elderly men, live across three housing blocks which have serious problems with mould and a lack of heating and insulation.
Last year, older age people’s housing charity Alone announced their intention to take over the running of the complexes and to make all units habitable for new and existing tenants.
The project is being funded solely by Alone.
Councillor Greg Kelly expects to receive an updated report on the timeline for the project at next week’s South Central area meeting.
He said the project will be carried out over three phases, and that the existing Dublin City Council tenants, will become Alone tenants once the project officially begins.
The Echo understands existing tenants will be moved between blocks whilst work is carried out.
