
Year in Review 2020: December

The weeks leading up to Christmas were filled with festive cheer around the county, with volunteers being recognised for their work throughout the unprecedented year that was 2020, and streets being lit up with vibrant Christmas lights.
Communities right across the county banded together to bring a bit of Christmas cheer to the area, by putting up dazzling Christmas lights on their streets, and adorning their houses and trees with vibrant, glittering decorations. (December 3 edition)
Two security guards from The Mill Shopping Centre, Danny O’Brien and Danny O’Leary, received Letters of Commendation and Life Saving Awards.
They received the awards because they quickly administered CPR to seven-year-old Karlee O’Brien Doonan, who collapsed in the shopping centre last December as she suffered a cardiac arrest.
The two men’s actions are credited with saving the young girl’s life. (December 10 edition)
South Dublin County received four accolades at the National Volunteer Awards 2020, and the award winners included the South Dublin Volunteers Corps, who worked at the Covid-19 test centres at Tallaght Stadium and later Citywest. (December 10 edition)
Businesses began to reopen following the end of the second lockdown, including the Rum Toffee Hair Salon in Ballyfermot, with the owner, Lynda Robinson, saying the opening day had been “absolutely manic”. (December 3 edition)
