“This was the second year running that South Dublin on Ice returned to Tallaght Stadium and it was a huge success, as well as Fossett’s Circus,” said a spokesperson for South Dublin County Council.

The figure of 22,000 is made up of normal paying customers, school groups, sports and recreational groups, community events, accessibility events, Ice hockey, skating lessons and and curling events.

Accessibility events were held on December 8 and 12 and both proved to be very popular. The event on December 8 catered for all wheelchair users and had the help of the Celtic Clover Ice hockey team to assist and make it a fun day for everyone.

A sensory evening was held on December 12 which provided low lighting and low or zero sounds to accommodate persons with Autism. A new addition to this year’s event was the introduction of Curling. The Ice rink closed to the public for two days to allow the Irish & World Curling Federation to promote their sport within the County.

This was another success and South Dublin on Ice hope it will return in 2019/2020.

Meanwhile other events confirmed to The Echo for Tallaght Stadium so far in 2019 are as follows: 1. Airtricity League games for Shamrock Rovers, starting February 2019;  Gaelforce Dublin in conjunction with Dublin’s Outdoors on March 23; Republic of Ireland Mens U21 Qualifiers against Luxemburg on March 24; UEFA U17 Boys European Championships with seven games to be held in Tallaght, from May 3-19 including the Final.
