A LARGE amount of waste was pulled from the Dodder River at Balrothery Weir last Sunday as multiple community groups came together in a joint clean-up.

On Sunday morning (July 12), 25 volunteers in total from Dodder Action, Dodder Valley and Tallaght Littermugs, Woods and Mount Carmel Park Residents Associations, the Weiry Hearts Club and Cherryfield Dogwalkers Litter Brigade met at the popular weir.

While they came together for the purpose of cleaning up, they remained socially distanced as they pulled the equivalent of 40 bags of waste from the river.

Contact tracing and hand sanitisation measures were also in place.

Over the space of two hours, the groups also retrieved a motorbike, bicycle, shopping trolley, lorry bumper and various pieces of metal.

The rubbish was collected and presented for council collection following their clean-up.

Several nitrous oxide canisters and related paraphernalia were also discovered and disposed of.
