40 new litter bins installed in the Tallaght area in past 12 months

A TOTAL of 40 new litter bins have been installed in the Tallaght area by South Dublin County Council in the last 12 months.

The council has also provided 1,100 litre mobile containers in some park locations – three in Tymon Park and one in Dodder Valley Park – to cater for the increase in park usage and the need for additional litter bin capacity which arose during Covid restrictions.

The council released this information in response to a question submitted by Fianna Fáil councillor Teresa Costello at a recent meeting of the Tallaght Area Committee.

Cllr Costello’s requested an update on queries about the allocation of either new bins or additional bins in public parks in Tallaght.

The local authority included details of locations where new bins have been installed, including five in Kingswood, two on the Cheeverstown Road, two at each pedestrian entrance to Tymon Park, three inside Tymon Park, two in Kilnamanagh, and one outside the chemist in Glenview.

As previously reported in The Echo, the council spent €800,000 servicing litter bins across South County Dublin in 2020.

€600,000 was spent to service the 700 street litter bins across the county, with an estimated figure of €200,000 spent to service the 200 litter bins in park locations in 2020.
