7,500 attend Clondalkin St Patrick’s Day parade

THE COMMUNITIES of Clondalkin and Lucan came out in force on Sunday to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.
With the weather staying dry, both Clondalkin and Lucan parades were a huge success as the crowds came out to celebrate our patron saint.

Organisers of the Clondalkin parade were delighted with sports clubs, dance groups, vintage car club, Clondalkin Equine centre and The Echo participating.
Grand Marshals Gemma and Philip Carr were delighted to be part of the celebrations as they led the Clondalkin parade on a horse and carriage.
Approximately 7,500 lined the streets of the village with the parade starting at the Clondalkin Community Centre and going around by the Garda Station and onto the Main Street.
The atmosphere was electric with children and parents cheering on the local groups and musician Finbar Coady interviewing each group at the main stage.
“We were delighted with the success of the parade this year,” said Clondalkin St Patrick’s Day committee member Francis Timmons.
“The support we got from local groups and businesses was fantastic and it really highlighted all that is good about Clondalkin.
“We hear of so many negative things in the area, but this year’s parade just highlights all the so-many positives. There was an electric atmosphere and the day overall was great. The weather stayed good and that was a great help.”
Grand Marshal Philip Carr said: “They were thrilled to be in Clondalkin for the parade and thanked the local community for their support.”
Everyone was a winner on the day, but the over-all 2019 Winners are: Best performance – Clondalkin Youth Band; Best dance group – Tinseltown; Best Walking group – Clondalkin Celtic FC; Most creative – friends of the Camac; Best newcomer – Clondalkin Equine Club; and Best float – Callum Transport.
